@kelvin613 cool!

@unfair Bro, our model was NEVER popular! LOL! I can't even find parts from the scrap market. Most of the parts are available brand new or re-con though. Why do u need to change engine mount? Unnatural vibration?

Let's see I've changed...

Clutch assembly (2 times)
Center diff (may spoil anytime)
Front brake disc(x2)
Front wheel bearings(x2)
Radiator
Radiator fan motor(x2)
Catalytic convertor
Steering pump
Timing belt set (2 times)
Air-con compressor Clutch
Air-con compressor assembly
Fuel pump filter
Front lower suspension arm bushing(x4)
Gear-shift linkage (x3) (next time will just need to change the plastic, not the whole link)
Spark plug set (2 times)

Not counting oil & tyres.

Not too bad, $13,000+ over 10 years. Still cheaper than Conti cars.

I find it weird that i have never changed engine mounting before after 9yrs

I think i changed much less then you.

Clutch assembly (1 times)
Front brake disc(x2)
Front wheel bearings(x2)
Radiator
Steering pump (change seals)
Air-con compressor Clutch
Air-con compressor assembly
Front lower suspension arm bushing(x1)
Gear-shift linkage (x1) (is this the shifter mounting, cause thats all i changed ?)
Spark plug set (2 times)

Coilover absorbers (1x)

I think i better go review the servicing schedules.

Why surprising no need to change mounting leh? Boxer engine has naturally low vibration. There are so many times I switch off the air-con and completely forgot to switch off the engine and I didn't realise the engine is running and I started the engine and the starter motor complained! :D

Bro my mileage is 200,000km at 8 years. Last 2 years I used the car less due to exhaust issues (which affected the clutch), renewed COE at 230,000+km.

I'm also quite aggressive at the corners so naturally lotsa wear and tear on front steering + wheels.

I do half-clutch to smooth out gear shift so clutch wear is higher. Will be trying to learn heel-toe to increase corner turn in speed and help reduce brake and clutch wear.

I think my shock absorber are spoilt also so over the next 6 months I will have to change more stuff...

Centre diff - $1700
Maybe upgrade to 17" rims but tyres will be more ex. Michelin PS4 205/55/16 $160 vs 215/45/17 $195
3M car wrap (lots of areas to patch so instead of strip and respray, I spend a bit more and wrap with dual-tone) - $3k
Main windscreen - wait for rocks to chip then claim insurance - $100 ;)
Headlights - change to one with fluorescent DRL and coat with anti-UV spray - $600
Stock shocks - $2k?
Solar film (Huper Optik) - yah I never installed b4 - $2k or less
Some soundproofing for tyre wells - $?
Replace with fresh catalytic converters $1K or just decat $450 (currently using old up-pipe I think)

Total $13K? But car will be like new! :D

stock shocks, if you go for KYB Excel-G (OEM replacement), it should be less than $700 for a set of 4, if you buy them from Yuen Thong directly, and installation is probably another $200 or so.

If you are aggressive in corners, wouldn't a set of coil overs make more sense ?

3M car wrap doesnt really last. My friends all tear away in less then 2 years.
A good same color respray should cost around 1.5k on the exterior parts.

Headlights - change to one with fluorescent DRL and coat with anti-UV spray - $600
DRL very easy to get caught right ?

Michelin PS4S 225/45/17 i just checked costs $275 b4 GST.... but i think PS4 should be good enough.

I'm not gonna track lah, no need to change the profile of the sus. I like the long throw of the stock sus actually, quite comfortable but still quite confident.

There are certain things to note about wrap. First thing is cannot go outside car-wash. Second, cannot use most wax/polish products on it. 3rd, don't get matte. My panels are very beat up, must strip first, then redo base-coat. I'm not looking to spray over. Wouldn't last also.

The DRL is embedded inside the headlight like the new Impreza and XV. Thinking of taking a risk. LOL

I'm definitely not getting PS4S. My mileage is gonna be high so don't wanna waste money.

Thanks bro! Damping rate similar to stock? Dun want my wife to complain. Not sure if it's because my PS3 hardened (installed Dec 2015) or the shocks are gone. Ride is rough and a bit bouncy.

KBY is as good as stock. ur tyre i assume is made in 2015, it won't harden as long as you use it regularly

if you havent change the shocks before, then most likely the shocks are worn lah. Mine changed last year, the rear already started leaking, and the bump stops are all degraded badly.

how is the headlight beam pattern after changing to the one with DRL?
i read online that the projectors are badly made and not properly aligned leading to bad beam pattern.

@attila, thanks for the assurance. Will definitely KIV and change when I confirm shocks are gone. My tyres are EOL already, front centerline left 2mm or less, rear 1mm and outer wall water drains almost gone + rubber peeling. Very noisy but not as noisy as RE001 when EOL. However, I don't remember RE001 being bumpy during EOL.

Opinions... should I change to stock BRZ 17" rims? An Impreza bro selling a set used $400 on Carousell. Will wet performance really go down if I use PS4 215/45/17?

@kelvin613 the beam pattern looks similar, the lights actually looks similar stock headlights.

Looking at these https://www.carid.com/2008-subaru-impreza-headlights/

Spec-D

There are many variants that look like this from Taiwan also. Not sure if they're the same OEM or manufactured to different specs. Not sure if the projector can be tiled up/down using the rocker in the car also...

Rims designs are just personal preference.
17 inch does give you more choices of tyres, especially UHP ones..

If you're looking at slightly better handling/performance, then you can look at forged wheels, they are stronger and lighter, and any amount of reduced unsprung weight will supposedly help with handling.

and why will wet performance go down if you use PS4? i know wider tyres are more prone to hydroplaning, but it depends a lot on the tyres design.

Yah I agree. Impreza already use 17" rims 205/50/17. Probably the same for other Japanese makes so 205/50/17 should be cheaper than 215/45/17 while maintaining the same tyre circumference as my current 205/55/16. My current setup is already 9% slower than actual speed on the road as measure by GPS.

I also just called a tyre shop and the shop owner say our car cannot fit 215/50/17 due to clearance issue? True?

I'm looking at higher speed stability. Going above 160km is dicey now. With 205/45/16, my car ever hit 220km on the speedometer, but adjusted speed is probably 200 or less. Dun wanna spend much money on Rims...

A bro of mine mentioned poorer wet performance to me regarding moving to 17". Nothing specific to the tyres actually. Sorry about the wording.

I don't see why moving to larger rim will affect wet performance. It's more related to tyre compound and thread pattern.

I'm running 225/50/17 offset +38, need to roll the rear fender slightly, else will rub. other than that no issues, and my speedo is still slightly under (GPS 86-87 @ speedo 90) GPS measured speed.

at this size, i basically maintain the stock thickness(compared to 205/55/16) and upsized the wheel by an inch.

High speed stability is definitely much better, at minor expense of pickup.

OK, so I bought the used BRZ rims from Carousell. Condition is pretty good.

I've also gone with PS4 215/45/R17 coz it wears better than the RE003.

Ride is smoother but I still feel my shocks is not working right... how to check?

My workshop quoted me up to $1300 for original Subaru shocks with full set of bump stops, nuts, washers etc. + labour. He'll check the condition of the parts before ordering so I think if it's really shocks are gone, I will change first before doing other parts.
